Employing nearly 5,600 people worldwide, the client is a U.S. based workforce management software and services company headquartered in Massachusetts. The client is a leading provider of workforce management and human capital management cloud solutions, offering the industry’s most powerful suite of tools and services to manage and engage an entire workforce from pre-hire to retire.
With a planned move to a SaaS model, the client had a need to measure the bottom line impact of migrating current customers to the cloud and providing prospective customers with the appropriate products and services to meet their unique needs. The calculations used in this process were variable by platform, product, and several other factors, and when done in Excel were time consuming and error prone due to a need to apply business rules to many scenarios.
With the help of Alteryx to automate and bring flexibility to the revenue forecasting process, Ironside was able to optimize the calculations and produce a series of datasets to power visual insight, with a self-documented, visually represented workflow that eases supportability.
Discovery & Analysis
Worked collaboratively with the team responsible for maintaining the existing solution in Excel as well as the stakeholders who would leverage the output of the forecasts to make decisions to understand the business logic and business impact of the new workflow
Assessed the most effective data integration and transformation processes to use in the workflow design and created a high level design that was broken into 2 main modules
Develop First Iteration
Broke the development tasks into 2 iterations based on the 2 main modules in the workflow
Delivered value faster and incorporated feedback from the development and initial testing of the first module into the 2nd iteration

Focused on applying efficiency gains from lessons learned in the 1st iteration and on organizing and documenting the workflow for ease of future maintenance
Facilitateed collaborative testing by holding several testing workshops focused on comparing the outputs of the original Excel solution and the new automated workflow
Incorporated the output of the Alteryx model into a data visualization platform
Quickly aggregated and drilled into any area of discrepancy to investigate differences and determine if there were any issues with the workflow’s business logic

A world leader in the development and manufacturing of state-of-the-art, whole blood, point-of-care and critical care analyzers, as well as providing the biotechnology industry with the most advanced instruments for cell culture monitoring. It is one of the fastest growing in vitro companies in the world.
The company’s FP&A team, along with the Controllers, needed an efficient tool and streamlined process to support the financial management of their continued growth. The company had several concerns they needed to address. The initial focus was on reporting financials after loading data from various general ledger systems in different countries. That process included eliminating intercompany balances – a crucial requirement and painful process before implementation of Adaptive.
These needs meant the company needed to reconsider the structural design instead of simply recreating their current structure. They were also looking for a more flexible and robust reporting platform – by products, territory, entity and more. The reporting application needed to have clear visuals and ease of drilling into activities. The implementation of a more user friendly and flexible budgeting and planning solution was much needed as well.
Ironside’s FPM team thought outside of the box to propose the use of one system to accomplish their reporting, budgeting and consolidations needs and led the client’s implementation of the Adaptive Insights Planning and Consolidation CPM solution through the following phases:

The client is a rapidly growing mid-sized biomedical manufacturing company. A classic good news and bad news Office of Finance situation has transpired over the last few years. That is, with rapid growth comes more requirements to report, eliminate and consolidate. The Controllers and FP&A team are highly experienced. As with many Finance teams, they had been rolling up their sleeves to successfully meet this challenge but their existing tools – Excel and Budget Maestro – have made this task difficult. The Finance team recognized this was a risky situation. They needed a modern tool and streamlined process for supporting strong growth and healthy margins.

A multinational pharmaceutical company focused on preventative health care and the research, development and production of prescription drugs of chemical and biotechnology origin.
The client’s Medical team had a need for a more comprehensive set of reporting around their interactions with health care providers, currently tracked using Salesforce Veeva. They wanted to replace current processes and workflows to manually combine monthly reports and metrics from Veeva and provide reporting stakeholders across Medical with a consolidated view of KPIs and the ability to identify and analyze drivers of those KPIs using Tableau.
The client engaged Ironside’s BI team to carry out the following phases:
Discovery & Analysis
Hold discovery sessions with stakeholders to understand their business objectives and current processes related to interactions and the use of Veeva data to track interactions
Identify and review reports pulled from Salesforce Veeva used as inputs to current processes
Define metrics used by each team as well as leadership to relay the quality of interactions
Create an initial dashboard mockup displaying the defined metrics visually and iteratively review and update based on stakeholder feedback
Data Prep & Prototyping
Create a mock data set and Tableau prototype to replicate the approved design and serve as a reference for data sourcing activities
Data Sourcing & Automation
Source Veeva data into the Enterprise Data Warehouse and model data in accordance with metric definitions and mock data set used in Tableau Prototype
Update Tableau prototype to use the enterprise data environment in conjunction with a Tableau Extract, and publish to Tableau server for distribution
