This course is intended for system administrators and others involved in compensation management who need to understand advanced configuration techniques for Cognos ICM. Students should have experience with Cognos ICM equivalent to having completed the Fundamentals of Configuration or Building the Model courses. Experience with Windows and Excel is mandatory.

Course Goals

  • Understand how to work with time in Cognos ICM through the appropriate tables.

  • Recognize the starting points for models and how they can be adapted and changed.

  • Become immersed in all aspects of calculation generation and configuration.

High-Level Curriculum

  • Work with the Time and Date String tables to control how your ICM platform manages time.

  • Grasp the major concepts contributing to successful models, such as the Standard Build Framework, the Base Model, and the Attribute Approach, including using the Attributes table to attach attribute metadata labels to calculations.

  • Create and reorganize calculation connections.

  • Manage inbound and outbound ports, including creating, renaming, and deleting.

  • Use the different calculation types and functions available, such as Category and Sort calculations, an Accumulated Partition, and the PREV() function.
