Prerequisites

This course is intended for anyone who is involved in table creation and calculation building for their comp environment. Participants should have a level of knowledge equal to having completed the Cognos ICM Fundamentals of Discovery course. Basic knowledge of relational database concepts is recommended and experience with Windows and Excel is required.

Course Goals

  • Understand the structure of and navigate Cognos ICM.

  • Understand Rivacent.

  • Work with calendars, tables, calculations, workflows, and restrictions.

  • Carry out administrative tasks, such as defining portal access and security.

High-Level Curriculum

  • Recognize the differences between the admin and web clients in Cognos ICM and the modules available in the admin client.

  • Navigate the Cognos ICM admin client, interface, modules, and toolbars.

  • Set up and explain requirements for Rivacent.

  • Explain and configure both locked and unlocked calendars.

  • Understand all core aspects of tables, including primary keys, dependencies, imports, new data, creation, navigation, and effective dating.

  • Navigate the New Calculation wizard and use it to create single-source and multi-source calculations.

  • Identify where and how to use restrictions in your tables and join data sources using them.

  • Analyze and solve requirements.

  • Create time shift calculations and union joins.

  • Roll multiple object into a component and create placeholder, outbound, and inbound connections.

  • Create data stores and configure portal access for Cognos ICM Web.

  • Build and manage effective workflows.

  • Establish user roles and accounts for admin client security.
